Dua of the day

This is a list of dua that will be discussed on Radio Ramadan Edinburgh by the presenters.

A new dua will be added every day during the month of Ramadan so please check back daily.

22/10/2006 - Invocation for when you find something has become difficult for you

O Allah, there is no ease other than what you make easy. If you please, you ease sorrow.

21/10/2006 - Returning a supplication of forgiveness

‘Abdullaah Ibn Sarjis said: ‘I went to see the Prophet (S) and ate from his good and then said to him:

(i) ‘May Allah forgive you, O Messenger of Allah.’

…he (S) replied:

(ii) ‘and you.’

20/10/2006 - Supplication before eating

‘When you are about to eat, you should say:

(i) ‘In the Name of Allah.’

…and if you forget to say it before starting, then you should say (when you remember):

(ii) ‘In the Name of Allah in it’s beginning and end.’

19/10/2006 - When angry

‘I take refuge with Allaah from the accursed devil.’

18/10/2006 - Supplication said upon sneezing

‘When one of you sneezes he should say:

(i) ‘All praise if for Allah’

…and his brother or companion should say to him:

(ii) ‘May Allah have mercy upon you.’

…and he (i.e. the one who sneezed) replies back to him:

(iii) ‘May Allah guide you and rectify your condition.’

17/10/2006 - Supplication for anguish

There is none worthy of worship but You, glory is to You. Surely, I was among the wrongdoers.

Reference: At-Tirmithi 5/529. Al-Hakim declared it authentic and Ath-Thahabi agreed with him 1/ 505. See also Al-Albani, Sahih At-Tirmithi 3/168.

16/10/2006 - Remembrance before sleeping

The Prophet (saw) was addressing Ali and Fatimah when they approached him for a servant.

‘Shall I not direct you both to something better than a servant? When you go to bed say:

(i) ‘How Perfect Allah is.’ (thirty-three times)

(ii) ‘All praise is for Allah.’ (thirty-three times)

(iii) ‘Allaah is the greatest.’ (thirty-four times)

…for that is indeed better for you both than a servant.’

15/10/2006 - Remembrance before sleeping

‘In Your name O Allah, I live and die.’

14/10/2006 - Remembrance before sleeping

The Prophet (S) would place his right hand under his cheek when about to sleep and supplicate:

‘O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the day Your servants are resurrected.’ (three times)

13/10/2006 - Remembrance said in the morning and evening

The Prophet (S) also said: ‘Whoever recites the last two verses of Suurah Al-Baqarah at night, those two verses shall be sufficient for him.’
[Al-Baqarah (2): 285-286]

12/10/2006 - Remembrance said in the morning and evening

The Prophet (S) also said: ‘When you are about to sleep recite aayat-ul-kursiyy till the end of the verse for there will remain over you a protection from Allah and no devil will draw near to you until morning.’

11/10/2006 - Remembrance said in the morning and evening

‘When retiring to his bed every night, the Prophet (S) would hold his palms together, spit in them, recite the last three chapters of the Quran and then wipe over his entire body as much as possible with his hands, beginning with his head and face and then all parts of the body, he would do this three times.

10/10/2006 - Remembrance said in the morning and evening

Abdullah Ibn Khubaib said: ‘The Messenger of Allah (S) said to me ‘Recite!’

I replied ‘O Messenger of Allah, what shall I recite?’.

He said ‘Recite:

  • Al-Ikhlaas
  • Al-Falaq
  • An-Naas

…in the evening and the morning three times for it will suffice you of all else.’

09/10/2006 - Remembrance said in the morning and evening

The Messenger of Allah (S) said: ‘Whoever says in the morning:

‘None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise and He is over all things omnipotent.’

…has indeed gained the reward of freeing a slave from the children of Ismaa’eel, and ten of his sins are wiped away and he is raised ten degrees, and he has found a safe retreat from the devil until evening. Similarly, if he says it at evening time, he will be protected until the morning.’

08/10/2006 - Rememberance after salaam

‘How perfect Allah is, all praise is for Allah, and Allah is the greatest.’ (thirty-three times)

‘None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise and He is over all things omnipotent.’

07/10/2006 - Rememberance after salaam

‘None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone without partner, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise and He is over all things omnipotent. O Allah, none can prevent what You have willed to bestow and none can bestow what You have willed to prevent, and no wealth or majesty can benefit anyone, as from You is all wealth and majesty.’

06/10/2006 - Rememberance after salaam

(i) ‘I ask Allah for forgiveness.’ (three times)

(ii) ‘O Allah, You are As-Salaam and from You is all peace, blessed are You, O Possessor of majesty and honour.’

05/10/2006 - Supplications related to the Aadhaan (the call to prayer)

One should supplicate for himself during the time between the aadhaan and the iqaamah as supplication at such time is not rejected.

04/10/2006 - Supplications related to the Aadhaan (the call to prayer)

One should then send prayers on the Prophet (S) after answering the call of the muadhdhin:

‘O Allah, Owner of this perfect call and Owner of this prayer to be performed, bestow upon Muhammad al-waseelah and al-fadeelah and send him upon a praised platform which You have promised him. Verily, You never fail in Your promise.’

One should also supplicate for himself during the time between the aadhaan and the iqaamah as supplication at such time is not rejected.

03/10/2006 - Supplications related to the Aadhaan (the call to prayer)

One repeats just as the muadhdhin (one who calls to prayer) says, except when he says:

(i) ‘come to prayer, come to success’

instead one should say:

(ii) ‘There is no might nor power except with Allah.’

02/10/2006 - Supplication when going to the mosque

‘O Allah, place within my heart light, and upon my tongue light, and within my ears light, and within my eyes light, and place behind me light and in front of me light and above me light and beneath me light. O Allah, bestow upon me light.’

01/10/2006 - Upon entering the home

‘In the name of Allah we enter and in the name of Allah we leave, and upon our Lord we place our trust.’

30/09/2006 - When leaving the home

‘In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.’‘In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.’

29/09/2006 - Upon completing the ablution

‘I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.’

28/09/2006 - When starting ablution

‘In the name of Allah.’

27/09/2006 - After leaving the toilet

Ghuf-raa naka

‘I ask You (Allah) for forgiveness.’

26/09/2006 - Before entering the toilet

Allahumma in-nee a'oothu bika minal khubu-thee wal khabaa ith.

‘(In the name of Allah). O Allaah, I take refuge with you from all evil and evil-doers.’

25/09/2006 - Before undressing

‘In the name of Allah.‘

24/09/2006 - When waking up

Alhamdulillah-hillathee ah-yana ba'da ma ama tana wa ilayhi nushoor.

‘All praise is for Allah who gave us life after having taken it from us and unto Him is the Resurrection.‘
